Description
The pneumatic anti-shock garment(PASG) is utilized to provide pressure around the lower extremities and abdomen.
It's made of thermoplastic urethane material. Modular three removable air chambers. Pressure gauges on each compartment and an inflating pump. Includes carry case.
Mechanism of action may include:
1. Increase in blood pressure in the hypotensive patient through peripheral venous compression and auto-transfusion of blood with upward displacement from the lower extremities.
2. Control of bleeding through direct pressure.
3. Stabilization of lower extremity/pelvic fractures through the PASG as a semi-rigid splint.
Features
·Easy Access to the Femoral Site
·Modular Construction
·Nylon Water Repellent Restraint Cover
·Automatic Relief Valve
·Inflation/Deflation Valves
·Replaceable Air Chambers
·Field Maintainable
·Carrying Case and Pump Included
·Applied in 60 Seconds
·Optional Pressure Monitoring Assembly Available

Action
Applies circumferential pneumatic counterpressure to the abdomen and lower extremities.
Therapeutic Effects
Controls external bleeding by direct compression
Controls internal bleeding under the trousers by reducing the blood flow compression of the vessels
Therapeutic Effects
Stabilizes fractures
Pelvis
Femurs
Therapeutic Effects
Increases resistance to blood flow in the lower body
Shunts blood to
Heart
Lungs
Brain
Produces increased blood flow to critical organs
Indications
BP below 80 systolic due to hypovolemia
Extensive soft tissue trauma to or bleeding from the abdomen or lower extremities with hypovolemic shock
Pelvic/femur fractures with hypovolemic shock
Absolute Contraindications
Pulmonary Edema
Diaphragmatic Hernia
Relative Contraindications
Bleeding above the level of the suit
Head trauma
Thoracic trauma
Advanced pregnancy (legs only)
Abdominal evisceration/impaled object (legs only)
Short transport times (lt30 minutes)
Removal
At the hospital, under the supervision of a physician who understands the device
IVs established
Surgical team ready
Abdomen, then one leg at a time, SLOWLY
Removal
Deflation should take 20 - 60 minutes
If BP drops 4-6 mmHg, discontinue deflation and infuse fluid
If BP drops over 10mmHg, re-inflate
An unstable patient may need to go to the OR with PAST in place
Never deflate the entire suit at once
